Fear not, I will not leave the Castle nor try to escape you. This is my condition, and it cannot be altered.” — The Orphan’s Tales: In The Night Garden, Catherynne M. Valente

I understand that racism still exists, but in almost a bullying affect.

I have been bullied my entire life, but that has not stopped me from getting a job or going to school or something to that effect.

what I’m trying to say is that I really wish people would stop considering someone a “privileged white person”, when in fact, those privileges don’t even exist anymore.

I have worked to get where I am. Today’s society allows that for every race. You work hard, you get somewhere. That is that.

so when someone calls me a privileged white girl, my immediate response is “oh because you’re so under privileged?”

this is not the fucking 50s. you have the same rights and abilities as I do or anyone else does.

apart from the homosexuals, but that’s an entirely different story.

so hop off your high horse, stop blaming your race for every “problem” you might see in the world, and get to work.

oh okay so when my brown father is overlooked constantly for being promoted even though he is overqualified and he overheard his boss talking about those darn brown people taking over the jobs it’s not about race

when my brown father gets called a sand n***** and gets a bottle thrown at his head for simply walking down the road it’s not about race

when my brown mother is overqualified for a simple banking job when she has two masters in economics, one which is in UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO, it’s not about race.

when my brown mother goes to work in a call center and gets tons of racist comments about her accent and how she should shut up and be a wife in india it’s not about race

when I get asked if there is a bomb in my violin case then it is not about race

when I get high marks in my classes and someone mutters that immigrants take away all the damn credit then it is not about race

when white people earn significantly more than poc in terms of scholarships and people still get angry about affirmative action then it is not about race

when black people and middle easterns get turned down for a job bc of their name

WHEN THERE ARE FACTS ABOUT WHITE PRIVILEGE EXISTING THEN IT IS NOT ABOUT RACE

you do have privilege. you know why? because you ignore all these facts and statistics and anecdata and sit on your high horse claiming that it is not about race when there is an unequal bias against poc everywhere.

but it’s not about race. it’s just bullying.
